This article is on the right track. Dubya was a deserter from the Texas Air National Guard during Vietnam, and looked about as convincing in the plane as Michael Dukakis in the tank in 1988.
The first letter-writer here though, is the epitome of what's wrong with Democratic strategy. We're too passive, and not direct enough in our attacks. Dubya is the *enemy* - you don't want to be subtle now. Hit him with a frontal assault to strip away the heartland vote, while exposing his contradictions to strip away Bobos.
In any case, *attack* Bush. Call him what he is, a liar, incompetent, and a puppet of Big Oil and Big Business. Al Gore is not president now because he didn't attack Bush viciously enough during the debates and late in the campaign, and folded during the Florida election controversy. (The Dems conveniently blamed Nader for their own weakness in confronting the Republicans, though.)
