Geeking in Sin City...
Feb. 4th, 2005 06:08 pmNight is falling in Las Vegas, and where am I? An internet kiosk overlooking the Strip, checking LJ!
This week saw me attending several hearings for bankruptcy cases I filed at the end of the year - all the Chapter 7 341 hearings went well and my clients were well-prepared. I got a continuance for a client of mine in a Chapter 13 plan who is late with his payments - he should get caught up in the extra month the judge gave us.
So far I'm up a little - I hit the Monopoly slot machine at New York New York it's a tradition for
grishnash and me to play for the big jackpot ($250), but lost $200 at the blackjack tables. I also won about $300 at the craps table, but most of that came from my dad's money.
Oh, and for people who hate big corporations - there's another Goliath v. Goliath battle here. Evidently the NFL has decided to crack down on casinos hosting parties in their ballrooms for guests and using the Super Bowl trademark to describe the game.
While the NFL has the right to control its intellectual property, it shows the restraint of the 1980s George W. Bush on a cocaine bender. There's plenty of money to throw around on all sides - just get some lawyers and a mediator into a conference room and figure out how much the casinos should pay the NFL for broadcast rights.
How have people reacted to this? Well, my dad and I are going to a private party in the hotel to watch the Sup...er, "Feb. 6 Football Championship Game". TVs have popped up on the casino floors, ostensibly to broadcast the Sup...Football Championship Game to gamblers. And there are rumors of casinos putting pressure on Football Championship Game advertisers to contact the NFL - the one I've heard is a city-wide boycott of Budweiser and Anheuser-Busch products in casinos to get a large advertiser to pressure the NFL to deal.
