Aug. 18th, 2003 12:15 pmMy blog is much more fair and balanced than Fox News, therefore, I am more entitled to use the slogan. Then again, you have to dip into the socialist propaganda papers to find a left-wing version of Fox News...
Saturday: went to the KBOO Book and Record Sale (affectionately called the "Broken Record Sale" by staffers....got three CDs (price is right, $2 each), Stephen Ambrose's D-Day book, and Chaim Potok's history of the Jews. Total damage - $8. How Amy managed to escape a book and record sale spending only $7 is beyond me. Maybe there wasn't enough jazz, or maybe it's because the older magazines were free. :)

ravenswing90, her housemates, and the Zinger! Bought a book of Shrubbish (Shrub quotes), and talked about the upcoming protest, and how Vera Katz and the Portland Police were asshats.
Cat shelter night, then dinner and relaxing at home.
Sunday, we went to a barbecue at our friend Conch's house. The specialty: barbecued chicken impaled on full, open beer cans placed in the chicken's body cavity. It worked....the chicken was nice and tender and the evaporating beer basted the chicken quite nicely.
Darklady made an appearance at the party; she's truly the Kevin Bacon of Portland. Everyone knows everyone through her.
Later, we sampled some absinthe smuggled in by one of the guest's friends from the Czech Republic - we did the sugar ritual and drank up....didn't get any of the hallucinations absinthe is known for, though.
I contributed some text to a reworking of an old Penthouse cartoon on Andrew Jackson and wild goings-on on the frontier - this is destined to be as much of a classic as the group of crazy cartoonists' take on "Say No To Drugs" kiddie propaganda. Of course, the talk went around to the classic Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue. (Heh....I see George Bush and Bar are in the video - I wonder if showing it to Shrub got him off the nose candy....)
