Why didn't they evacuate???

Of course, the conservatives ask this as a rhetorical question, but once real information starts getting out (not rumors), the story can be told:

They're old, and probably sick. 215 of the 1,048 hurricane victims in Louisiana were found in or near hospitals or nursing homes. Approximately 60% of the Louisiana hurricane victims were age 61 or older.

Of course, the conservative noise machine will still be blathering on about "gang members raping babies" and "criminals among the refugees." They're also the same people who call every black man under the age of 50 a "gang member" and think the cops stopping the 40-ish black man in front of my house driving a new BMW a good idea because "the car could be stolen."

My foster brother, who is Black, got harrangued by the police once in front of our house. The problem was, it seems, that one of the rear windshields of the car was broken and taped up. Clearly a young black man in an upper middle class neighborhood would only have a car with a damaged window if he had stolen it by breaking out the glass and sqeezing in (ahem, not possible).

Luckily when my white mother opened her front door to ask what was going on, and confirmed his story, they were willing to believe her.
