Posting this one from [livejournal.com profile] jdm314 's place in Chicago, where I'm staying the night. I've had an interesting, but tiring, weekend, but can't wait to go back home. I miss Amy, and miss Walter and Callie, even if they're a couple of monsters.

I arrived in Chicago Thursday afternoon, went to my hotel - the smaller one near campus, not the fancy one farther north, since they sold out the rooms for the U of C alumni there, then met up with everyone at Abodo Grill for upscale Mexican food and conversation. Interesting food, although we were up pretty late, and my sinuses made it very hard for me to sleep that night.

I didn't get much sleep, and was gulping coffee during the Alumni Schools Committee Seminar. It was pretty interesting; we're getting tactics on how to facilitate interviews of incoming UChicago students and taking a peek at how our work fits into prospective students' admission files. (Many of the admissions office staff attended the seminar.) Didn't do much that night, but did 80s out on movies - alternating between Ferris Bueller's Day Off and Colors. (Odd to see the late 80s police technology in Colors compared to how well-equipped, and violent, police are now.)

I continued the 80s movies Saturday morning with a good part of The Breakfast Club, then went over to [livejournal.com profile] jdm314's place and met up with him and his GF Beth. We went for deli, then to the Printer's Row Book Fair - I got a copy of Ghost World and a guide to tiki bars from the Quimby's table.

We met [livejournal.com profile] masem, [livejournal.com profile] roho, [livejournal.com profile] kestral and [livejournal.com profile] feren at Dave & Buster's in suburban Chicago, and ate and drank heartily while chatting - and were amused by [livejournal.com profile] roho's name, which is the same (including middle initial!) as one of our other mutual friends. (It has caused much confusion in the past on Usenet....) Then we worked off some of the food and alcohol in the video game room - Dave & Buster's really is a Chuck E. Cheese for adults.

I had a great time in Chicago, but I'm tired and miss Amy. I can't wait to go back to Portland, just so long as it isn't broiling hot there later today.
