Well, well, well. It looks like Congress is going to vote on the permanent repeal of the estate tax on Tuesday, when people are still innundated with news about Hurricane Katrina.
Somehow I doubt that the heirs of the people killed in New Orleans and Mississippi will have to worry about the estate tax. This is a blatant giveaway to wealthy corporate donors and their executives - money that would be better suited to helping rebuild Louisiana and Mississippi and helping the people displaced by the storm put their lives back together.
Oh, and Greedy Grover Norquist published this memo encouraging the repeal of the estate tax, using the tired argument that the refugees from the hurricane would benefit more from the alleged stimulus to the economy. WTF?
Norquist is no better than the armed looters who stole luxuries from abandoned stores after the hurricane. Only what he's looting is the United States Treasury on behalf of the greedy wealthy who support him. Norquist has said that he wanted to cut the government so that it could be "drowned in a bathtub." I have another idea - let's drown him in one of the fetid toilets of the Superdome, or just waterboard him until he gets the message.
